What is the Queen's English?
The Queen's English refers to the standard, correct English traditionally spoken by educated people in the UK. It is characterised by formal grammar, standard spelling and vocabulary, a lack of slang, and precise pronunciation. The term is often used to mean correct, standard English, a prestige accent of British English traditionally associated with the royal family. In fact, the term changes to "King's English" when a king is on the throne.
Did you know?
Queen Omorogbe, headteacher and founder of The Queen's English, chose to call her language school "The Queen's English" as it not only reflects the high quality English courses her school offers; the clear standard English that is taught; but also the person she is, the aura she exhibits, and the way she carries herself. In fact, Queen is her name, so the Queen's English has a broader meaning in this context - It is, indeed, the standard or "polished" English spoken and taught by Miss Queen, the "BBC English Teacher", as she is nicknamed.
